The United Church of
Christ is a community of faith that seeks to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
in word and deed. The UCC was founded in 1957 as the union of several different
Christian traditions: from the beginning of our history, we were a church that
affirmed the ideal that Christians did not always have to agree to live together
in communion. Our motto—"that they may all be one"—is Jesus' prayer for the
unity of the church. The UCC is one of the most diverse Christian churches in
the United States.

"The
Indiana-Kentucky Conference was a blending and union of local
churches which had their origin in eight separate bodies: namely,
the Congregational Churches, the Christian Churches, the Evangelical
Synod, the Reformed Church, the Magyar Synod, the Evangelical and
reformed Church, the Congregational Christian Churches and those
congregations which were begun as a United Church of Christ in both
Indiana and Kentucky.1"
We are a family of
156 churches located in nine associations in Indiana and Kentucky.
The Conference
office is located in the Indiana Interchurch Center, affectionately
referred to on occasion as the God box, a unique building containing
multi -denominational offices and organizations: Christian Church in
Indiana, Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, Synod of Lincoln Trails,
United Methodist Church, Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis,
Church World Service, Indiana Network for Higher Education
Ministries, and Jewish Community Relations Council.
Inspired and
sustained by God's grace, the Indiana-Kentucky Conference exists as
a living and growing body, supporting and challenging one another
with the passion of Jesus Christ to share the word and work of God's
Love with ever more people in ever more churches.
