New Church Starts

New Hope, Owensboro, KY  ~*~*~ Trinity UCC, Gary, IN  ~*~*~ Abundance UCC, Warsaw , IN

The Indiana Kentucky Conference is making progress on our goal of “20 by 2020”; that is, twenty new churches by the year 2020. Here a report of what is happening around the conference.

Trinity UCC in Gary , IN has a new building and is moving steadily toward independence. At our Annual Meeting, Trinity was honored for having the highest per capita level of giving to OCWM.

Abundance UCC in Warsaw IN is in the process of being born. Timothy Price is working toward the formation of a church in that community. He has gathered an initial group and has the strong encouragement of Plymouth UCC in Ft. Wayne .

Lexington , KY is the site of a proposed new church. A support committee is at work and is seeking a bi-vocational pastor to plant a church in this rapidly growing area.

Gifts to the Apollos Offering help support pastoral leadership in new churches such as these. Your gift may be spent this year or next, but its impact will continue many years into the future. It is a gift to future generations of the United Church of Christ.

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” I Cor. 3:6

In the Scriptures, Paul reports that he planted the seed which was cultivated and nurtured by Apollos, thus allowing God to give growth to the church. Your financial gifts do the work that Apollos did in Corinth . They water the soil so God might give growth. They create the environment in which a congregation can receive the blessings of the Spirit.

We ask each member of the Indiana-Kentucky Conference to give at least five dollars each year to support the work of new church start pastors.

We suggest you set aside one Sunday to receive this offering. We will provide a promotional bulletin insert as well as offering envelopes, if needed. Money received will be placed in the Donald R. Buckthal Fund for new church development and used only to support pastoral leadership in new church starts.

We thank you and so do generations to come.

No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
